Union County Reminds Residents of Plastic Recycling Guidelines
Staff Report / cranfordlocal.org
The Union County Board of County Commissioners and the Bureau of Recycling and Planning are reminding residents to be aware of plastic recycling guidelines. Plastics with the numbers #1, #2, and #5 can be recycled curbside, while #5 plastics are only accepted in specific towns. Plastics marked with #3, #4, #6, and #7 should not be put in curbside bins.
Recyclable plastics include:
- #1 PETE: soda and water bottles
- #2 HDPE: milk and detergent bottles
- #5 PP: yogurt and margarine containers
There are 7 types of plastics (#1-#7); always check the labeling before recycling. Rinse and dry containers before disposal.
Plant pots and trays should not be put in recycling bins due to contamination. Options include reusing them, donating to garden clubs, or checking with local garden centers for recycling services. If no reuse options are available, pots can be disposed of in regular garbage.
For more information on Union County recycling programs, visit ucnj.org/recycle or call 908-654-9889.
